Best and Most Convenient Same Day Surf Spot
There are several destinations for same day surf lessons along Oahu’s south shore, but the location deserves just as much consideration as the availability of an instructor. Starting at Waikiki’s eastern end, Kaimana Beach and the shoreline along Kapiolani Park offer beautiful surroundings, yet reaching suitable surfing waves can involve longer paddle-outs, with the experience depending on swell, tide, current, and wind conditions. Moving to the western end near the Ala Wai Canal and harbor, breaks such as Kaiser’s present a complex setting, while nearby Ala Moana Bowls is better known for demanding waves that appeal to experienced surfers. Water quality near the canal outlet also warrants attention, particularly following heavy rain. Along the beachfront at Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hale Koa Hotel, and Outrigger Reef, booking close to your accommodation can be appealing, but these are very poor surf spots marked by excessive paddle outs and limited opportunities to catch waves even with an instructor.. Join us early, slip a lesson between other adventures, or finish the afternoon with a few rides as the sky changes color. Safe Storage Available
Decided to book same day surf lessons on a whim? You may already be wearing board shorts or a swimsuit—perfectly appropriate attire for just about any day in Waikiki—but still have your wallet, phone, shopping bags, and other belongings in tow. Nobody wants to interrupt a spontaneous adventure with a trek back to their hotel, vacation rental, or rental car (for those who have driven over from another side of the island). Fortunately, Sparky’s Surf School has secure storage available in our official—and famous!—surf school vehicle at 135 Uluniu Avenue, just a two-minute stroll from where you and your instructor will paddle out. We have locker storage, too! All you need to bring is your sense of adventure and a pair of shorts or a swimsuit (let’s keep the birthday suit out of this lesson!), and we’ll take care of the rest.
